[08:02]<jamer> Hi jacky
[08:31]<+camerongray> Hey jacky & jamer
[08:31]<@BC_Programming> Oh I see how it is
[08:31]<jamer> Hi cam
[08:31]<jamer> Hi bc
[08:31]<+camerongray> haha, hey BC_Programming
[08:32]<@BC_Programming> Now I know what it's like to be last
[08:32]<jamer> So anyone here own space engineers?
[08:33]<@BC_Programming> Craig and Mulreay play it
[08:33]<@BC_Programming> I have it but I find it annoying
[08:34]<jamer> I like it
[08:35]<jamer> Its one of the reasons why I want to get a better computer camerongray
[08:35]<+camerongray> Yeah
[08:36]<+camerongray> What do you have at the moment, with $350 to spend you could probably use some of the stuff you have already
[08:39]<jamer> What I have is actually going to a person I know, that's why I wanted a new build
[08:39]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:40]<@jacky> jamer: Hello
[08:40]<@jacky> camerongray: Hello
[08:40]<@jacky> BC_Programming: Hello
[08:40]<jamer> All is going .. Even the hard drives and gpu
[08:40]<@jacky> sorry... got to go. But a sincere 'Hello' to all
[08:40]<@jacky> :)
[08:40]<@jacky>
[08:41] * jacky (the_kink@mib-4505C8.slsbmd.east.verizon.net) Quit (Quit: )
[08:43]<@BC_Programming> Next Pay I'll have 3 grand to drop on a laptop
[08:43]<jamer> Makes sense Camerongray
[08:43]<@BC_Programming> but then I'll have to pick it up again
[08:44]<@BC_Programming> probably best not to drop it
[08:44]<jamer> BC which laptop are you getting
[08:44]<+camerongray> It does yeah, just bear in mind that the PC you told me about is very old
[08:44]<@BC_Programming> jamer: I don't know yet, I'm not even sure if I'll get one
[08:45]<jamer> Camerongray parts over here are still expensive.. My hd4850 was still 40 bucks new
[08:45]<jamer> Used not new*
[08:45]<+camerongray> ahh yeah
[08:46]<jamer> BC Asus makes a great laptop
[08:48]<@BC_Programming> It would be between the next-gen Thinkpad or possibly a Toshiba since the Satellite's I have have served me well
[08:48]<@BC_Programming> The ASUS transformer is nifty though
[08:49]<+camerongray> Toshiba's business stuff is still okay but thier consumer stuff isn't great
[08:49]<+camerongray> With your budget I'd focus on a business machine of some sort
[08:49]<+camerongray> ThinkPad, Latitude, Precision, ProBook.etc
[08:51]<@BC_Programming> http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8520729&CatId=927 oooh that has a trackpoint nub it looks like
[08:51]<+camerongray> Yeah, anything sold as a ThinkPad well
[08:51]<+camerongray> will*
[08:52]<+camerongray> That's a pretty old model though, Ivy Bridge
[08:52]<+camerongray> Stick with one of the new W or T series ones
[08:52]<@BC_Programming> I thought that they got rid of it for a generation?
[08:52]<+camerongray> nah, they removed the physical buttons but the next generation brings them back
[08:52]<+camerongray> Not having the buttons is my only complaint for my laptop since I use the trackpoint exclusively
[08:53]<@BC_Programming> geez the W540 has a frikkin Quadro
[08:53]<+camerongray> Yeah, it's REALLY nice if you need power
[08:53]<+camerongray> I'd look at the W550s for when it comes out: http://www.thinkscopes.com/blog/2014/12/02/thinkpad-w550s-and-w541-announced/
[08:53]<@BC_Programming> dang, higher resolution than my desktop too lol
[08:54]<+camerongray> Slimmer, loads of power (including the 3k option) and has the physical buttons back
[08:59]<@BC_Programming> neat
[09:00]<+camerongray> You may not need the power of a W series thouh
[09:00]<+camerongray> though*
[09:00]<+camerongray> In that case a T series would be sufficient
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> truth be told I don't *need* a new laptop either
[09:01]<+camerongray> hahaha
[09:01]<Veltas> In the flesh, W series are much larger than T series IIRC
[09:01]<Veltas> Something to consider
[09:01]<@BC_Programming> It's funny to think back to when a 133Mhz Pentium laptop was my main development system
[09:02]<@BC_Programming> yeah that one I linked looks like it could give people papercuts
[09:02]<+camerongray> The W series are a bit chunkier but they tend to look bigger due to the screen size
[09:02]<+camerongray> W series is always 15", the T series is more commonly bought as 14"
[09:03]<@BC_Programming> 755CDV was where it was at
[09:03]<Veltas> Tell me more about the glory days BC_Programming
[09:04]<@BC_Programming> well that was 2006 it was a different time
[09:04]<Veltas> :O
[09:05]<@BC_Programming> Toshiba Satellite Pro 440CDX, 133 Mhz Pentium MMX, 144MB RAM, 800x600 Passive matrix screen
[09:05]<+camerongray> haha, nice
[09:05]<Veltas> Wait you used that in 2006?
[09:05]<@BC_Programming> Yes
[09:05]<Veltas> It really was a different time...
[09:05]<@BC_Programming> that amd my K6-2
[09:05]<@BC_Programming> and my amd k6-2
[09:06]<Veltas> The current laptop I use is from 2007, I've got nothing on that.
[09:06]<@BC_Programming> I actually replaced the hard drive and CD-ROM drive last summer
[09:06]<@BC_Programming> spent 70 bucks on new parts, installed them, installed windows, then stuffed it back in the closet
[09:07]<Veltas> Better safe than sorry
[09:07]<@BC_Programming> upgraded to a huge 10GB drive
[09:07]<@BC_Programming> how will I ever fill it
[09:07]<Veltas> How viable is it to use a 133MHz Pentium MMX these days?
[09:08]<@BC_Programming> it probably would be doable if I disabled images in firefox 2
[09:08]<Veltas> 144MB RAM... is that the max for the laptop?
[09:08]<@BC_Programming> Yes
[09:08]<@BC_Programming> came with 16 from the factory but it was given to me with 144
[09:08]<Veltas> Nice
[09:09]<@BC_Programming> Given the system seems to dislike PC Cards it seems unlikely I could get it to connect to the internet. with the Wifi I had it working long enough to get a screenshot I think
[09:10]<Veltas> I was very unhappy the other day when a Wireless card I had claimed support for 98
[09:10]<Veltas> And then it turned out they had just written that on there because they felt like it or something, I can't find the drivers for love nor money
[09:11]<Veltas> System is currently running Debian 3, works like a charm, wireless works too
[09:11]<@BC_Programming> I found the screenshot
[09:11]<@BC_Programming> http://bc-programming.com/images/ie6bcpfail.png
[09:12]<jamer> I've still got my old Toshiba laptop
[09:13]<@BC_Programming> I used to play quake on it
[09:19]<jamer> If you're wondering school closed for the day
[09:25]<@BC_Programming> I was disappointed over that christmas holiday I had
[09:25]<@BC_Programming> I think I wrote one blog post
[09:26]<@BC_Programming> I like at least having the excuse of being busy
[09:26]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[09:27]<+camerongray> I'm back at uni today
[09:27]<+camerongray> Good to actually be doing something
[09:27]<+camerongray> Even though I have 6 hours between lectures
[09:28]<@BC_Programming> the funny thing is even though I only worked two days over that pay period
[09:28]<@BC_Programming> I actually ended up getting paid more than I would working full time at my old job
[09:53]<@BC_Programming> hmm SD2SNES is tempting also
